Go Totally Tomatoes with Homemade Bloody Mary Mix
By Karla Jones Seidita, Home Economist
What can you do when you have more tomatoes in your garden than you have sandwiches to contain them? Or more homemade pasta sauce than you’ll use in a year. Or friends to give them to? Why you make Bloody Mary Mix of course!
I use cherry tomatoes to make my mix because that’s what I always have the most of in my garden but you can use any red tomato or a combination thereof. Avoid using tomatoes that are not red – like yellow or orange. While the flavor will be good, the color of the finished mix will not be as nice.
If you’re into canning, you can bottle the finished mix in quart jars and process it in a boiling water bath. Search a reliable canning resource like The Blue Book of Canning for directions. Canned mix will separate. Just shake before using.
